UIC finds themselves in a familiar place - 300+ RPI. Sorry league but we aren’t going to change that this season.

I give my apologies as well. We are a terrible team. The way we are playing is no longer a one game aberration (Kentucky). It's become a pattern. We are a badly coached team.

Okay. Now we can stop saying, "It's still early". It's now 3 weeks left or about 4-5 non-con games before HL play begins. Horrible weekend as the League goes 2-8. The Horizon League is NOT what we thought it was! Who'd want to join now?

But there is no one in that compact geographical footprint that would add any value to the HL.

The Horizon League is NOT what we thought it was! Who'd want to join now? Anyone who wanted a good shot at a conference title? Seven teams with losing records against D1 opponents, a team that got blown out by a D2, a team that hasn't won a single game in the conference tournament since 2014 despite top-3 finishes every year since, and Northern Kentucky. If I'm any school in the nation, I like those odds. (That said, it IS way too early for RPI to be meaningful. RPI as a measurement is incredibly volatile until it gets enough data points around mid-January or so).

(That said, it IS way too early for RPI to be meaningful. RPI as a measurement is incredibly volatile until it gets enough data points around mid-January or so). For an individual team, perhaps, but for the conference, it's getting pretty well-baked into the cake. The reason is that the most heavily weighted part of RPI is opponent's W-L. In conference play, all conferences play .500 ball (a winner and loser in every game). So you need the non-conference wins to boost that opponent's W-L record. They can still go up or down if our non-conference opponents do really well in their conference schedules, but by the time non-conference play ends there's not usually a lot of movement. RPI Forecast expect the Horizon to rise from its current 29 to 26 by year end. Who knows, maybe we'll do better than that. But reaching the teens is very unlikely.

January, as Blackbird mentioned, is when Conference play begins. In our League's case, conference play begins on Dec 28, a few days before others. Big Ten has already started Conference play, but still have non-con games to play. We'll be done with non-con, so as was mentioned, it's no longer 'still early"!

Another disappointing night for Horizon League teams. I'm ready to get into league play so we can forget about this miserable non conference season. That was the first just outright bad game from NKU. Very disappointed, I do worry if we are going to only be a good home team. We have not played well on the road thus far.

UIC, GB and IUPUI have no excuse for this poor performance. They are several years into their coaching systems and roster management. I'm willing to give CSU and YSU a pass since they were at rock bottom and are starting over. There should be continuity in this off season with no teams starting over from ground zero. If the metrics don't get better in each of the next two years for most members the HL is toast.
