Indystar article on IUPUI to Horizon League: www.indystar.com/story/sports/co ... 435965001/ Found this interesting, implies IUPUI is not subject to HL exit fee: "LeCrone said IUPUI was not contractually committed to staying in the Horizon League beyond next season, but he hoped for a long-term affiliation. He said the Horizon League could expand to 12 teams as early as 2018-19." Something happened to the link. Anyway, a one year contract is not unusual. In fact according to the HL by-laws, when a team accepts an invitation to the Horizon League, it's for 4 years. After that, the contract is renewable on a yearly basis. If the Jags got a one year contract from the get go, it's probably because of the possible dissention between Executive Council members concerning the worthiness of IUPUI to be in the HL. This one year contract might be to see if IUPUI upholds it promises to the Conference. The MVC had a promise from Loyola that they would spend money on sports, but apparently did not. The HL doesn't want that to happen to them. Hopefully bringing back baseball and investing more money in basketball were some of the criteria for contract extension.

One he indicated there would be some branding initiatives being unveiled over the next few weeks.Lets home that IUPUI is going bye bye and Indy Jaguars or something similar is coming soon. Indy Jaguars sounds like a winner, but they'd have to go through the University of Indianapolis (UIndy) for that moniker! IUI wouldn't sound too bad and "IUIndy" isn't bad either, but itĀ also is too close to UIndy! Hopefully they can come up with something practical and clever. Man! Rogobob77 beat me to it as well! I like IUI personally although I don't know if Purdue is parting ways with them. If not it may be unrealistic to think about them having that name. Some schools with 4 letters like UCLA, BGSU, etc can get by and be unique. When you get to 5 letters it becomes kind of too much to say.

UCLA can get away with it, I mean LA is part of an iconic ID. To a lesser extent UMKC can do it as most of America knows what KC means. For IUPUI it is just long and doesn't actually refer to anything that people would easily know. I think people know Indy but if you can't refer to it as Indy what about dropping the U's and rolling with IPI, IPIndy or IPIndianapolis? Whatever, I hope they do something to make people feel better about this.
I know the public opinion needs to look good but didn't motor city madness get met with a 7-3 or 8-2 vote that was public?
The one year agreement is very interesting to me. It cuts both ways I suppose. On one hand does it make the HL look desperate? On the other does it give them an out if IUPUI doesn't fit? Time will tell.
Despite a lot of my negative words I am not rooting against IUPUI. I would love for them to prove me wrong and be a positive addition to the league. I do think they could do that, it will just take a change in vision and philosophy from what they have been doing.

Purdue and Indiana are co-equal partners of IUPUI, so there is no way you are going to remove the "PU" no mater how bad those initials stink. (At Fort Wayne, the IU component just recently split off, so they're now PUFW, although "Fort Wayne" for athletics.)
My guess is the IUPUI rebranding won't change the way the school is referred to, probably what is in the works is something like a reworking of the logo to make the Jaguar look more ferocious.

One question is who was turned down.According to the rumor at least two made presentations.IUPUI was chosen.
Who else was invited to give a power point?
My crazy guess is SIU-E.

Are you certain? Looks to me like a empty rhetoric from an outsider commenting on the situation. "Sources told CBS Sports that IUPUI didn't have the basketball budget of other Horizon League nominees, but a commitment going forward to spending more on hoops figures to be a big part of the equation." That part makes me wonder if it's someone who knows.

Finally watched a clean version of the announcement on YouTube and wow...LeCrone was amazing! The guy was going on like a kid in a candy store! It got me to thinking that this IUPUI choice was his chance to get his "home" school in. He talked about living in Indy for 25 years and knowing, working and developing relationships with people of Indy; how Indianapolis is the greatest city in the world; how this invitation helps with a long held vision of his to have a sports educational collaboration in the "amateur sports capital of the world; the Swimming and Diving Championships will ALREADY be in Indy for next season! He was very ecstatic to have the Jags in the conference! This could've been why the process took so long...other schools maybe did not want IUPUI, but LeCrone had to do a bit of arm twisting although it's an ultimate President's decision.
Schools 11 & 12 and possibly 13 & 14 shouldn't be as tough. However, "This one was for Jon"!

The IU Natatorium is one of the largest and top-of-the-line swimming & diving facilities in the country. They've hosted US Olympic Trials and the USA Swimming National Championships. among many other events. It's a phenomenal facility: www.iunat.iupui.edu/
