That's at least a start. Now their coach can at least sell to recruits that they do have an opportunity for championships, albeit conference championships. To some, a championship is a championship. And it will only be two more years before they can experience the fullness of Conference AND the NCAA tourney! We shall see how that works out for the next couple years.

NKU let their coach go today. I think that is a good sign. I had mentioned in the past that I didn't think he is good enough and they need to upgrade if coming to the HL. I can see them getting the okay to join the league soon.
I will be curious to see who they hire. Heck, maybe GB's old AD who is now at NKU will try and bring Wardle down to NKU. Nothing would surprise me.

Maybe NKU thought now was the time to make a change to prep for a possible invite to the HL. This will give the new coach a year of acclimation with the team while recruiting players for Horizon play in '16-'17.

Without a ton of knowledge on their respective situations and what NKU has for its vision I would appreciate NKU hiring John Pelphrey, Darrin Horn or Larry Davis.
Pelphrey is at Florida as an assistant but is from KY and played for big blue. He had various levels of success at Arkansas and South Alabama. He is a name that seems realistic but shows they are serious about growing their basketball brand.
Darrin Horn did well at WKU. He is from the Lexington area and is currently on tv as a color guy for ESPN. I know he didn't do well at South Carolina but there is no shame in that. I think he is a name that says NKU is serious about winning as he has proven to win at the mid major level before.
Davis is from Kentucky and has been an assistant at East Tennessee, Ball State and Cincy so he knows the area. At cincy they play a rough and tumble style that would do well in the HL. Given that he just won a tournament game it would also show that NKU is serious about hoops.

All those names sound pretty good and I think will serve NKU well. I've also heard Xavier's assistant coach, Travis Steele's name being tossed around. Ken Bothof is in line to make a huge move in the progresion of the NKU program.

Four years ago I thought NKU should hire Horn so I suppose it would be a bad look if I didn't support it now. Also, in a different thread I wasn't sold on Brannen...confirming I don't know sh**. Travis Steele did well career wise and was well served to step away from a lot of mid major job offers.

I am confident Horn will keep the train rolling at NKU. I am a WKU grad/fan and watched him as a player, asst. coach, and head coach. Everybody says it---but his teams DO play hard. Recruiting? Dwayne Wade anyone? Along with many others who have played in the pros. I fear it may hurt WKU recruiting in state(hope not). NKU REALLY has it going. Facilities, coach, tradition(though somewhat limited), decent media support in Cincy--which is impressive considering the pro teams and other schools. Great leadership from president and AD who have expectations OR they will fire you. Their fan support could be better--but is on an upward track. They have passed EKU and Morehead like they were standing still.
Where do they go from here? If they continue to win, grow fan support, and gain a few more rich donors they might consider the MVC or even the A-10. They are not to be underestimated.
