A very good commitment for Detroit. He's a scorer, which is just what Detroit needs to take pressure off Juwan Howard. Simpson averaged 23 ppg (15th nationally in juco ranks), and he gets to the line (juco 3rd nationally in free throws attempted, 10th in percentage (85.7%)). He originally signed with Illinois State out of high school but did not qualify academically. He reportedly chose Detroit over Southern Illinois, Iona, Tennessee, Arkansas, Wichita State, and Bradley.
Detroit has already signed two of the top 10 players in Michigan, forwards Jaleel Hogan and Aaron Foster-Smith, so this is shaping up as a very good class for the Titans, who still have one open scholarship.

Simpson also finished third in the voting for the State of Illinois Mr. Basketball in 2012. He's a good pick up for the Titans.

Simpson appears to be coming in with some experience and game. If that's the case, what happens to Grant and/or Williams? Is there an odd man out?

One possibility is that Simpson starts and Grant moves to the bench. The other is that Simpson is used off the bench to provide instant offense. Either way I suspect Anton Wilson loses playing time unless he can be more consistent (Wilson is a 3 point specialist - he shot over 40% from three this year, but it was a bit of a 1-4, 0-2, 1-5, 4-4 type pace). The Titans "problem" next year will be how to distribute minutes; that may resolve itself on the court once the team starts practice.

I am in agreement with Commish's comments above on this topic. I expect Simpson to play, and I expect that Anton Wilson's minutes will be cut. I have to think that the coaching staff was underwhelmed with his inconsistent play this year. Titan fans (and coaches) probably were expecting bigger things from Wilson this year. Carlton Brundidge improved as the season went on, but his impact was less than what many had anticipated. As we learned the hard way last year, transfers can come from nowhere. We had three guards transfer in the last off season, with the Calliste transfer coming in at the last minute. Both of our freshman guards are a long way from home, and while I haven't heard anything about them being homesick, you never know. As it looks right now, the backcourt is going to be crowded, but these things usually end up working themselves out.

Simpson apparently changed his mind, and verbally committed to DePaul over the weekend. DePaul had just lost a player from their 2014 class and apparently went after Simpson to fill the opening. As a fan of both Detroit and DePaul, I'm disappointed. I think Simpson was a nice fit for Detroit, but conventional wisdom does not have him as an Big East level talent.

Wow! Sometimes this college stuff just baffles me. I don't understand why a guy, who has a chance to get significant minutes with a program that's recently been to the Dance, choose to commit to a program that hasn't seen the NCAA tournament since the days of Joey Meyer...make that Pat Kennedy...matter of fact, make that since the LAST CENTURY!

Yeah, Chuck, looking at the objective criteria, it would seem Detroit would be the best place for him, in terms of individual opportunity and potential team success. I'm a DePaul fan, but they are in a bad place as a program. This season was brutal for them, and next season will likely be rough, too. Their coach will probably not make it past next season. Simpson could end up playing his senior year for a coach who didn't recruit him, and we all know how that could go. Apparently the chance to play at "home" was a big factor for Simpson, and he knows some of the DePaul guys. Whatever the reason, it's a big loss for the University of Detroit.
