This board seems to be slowing dying out, along with the Horizon League, which has over the last decade has slipped dramatically in the conference rankings and keeps losing its stronger programs. Fan bases continue to decline, with most schools down in per game attendance since this board was launched a decade ago.
I notice that HL Fanaticus, who started the board, hasn't posted in nearly a year. Was he a UIC fan? I think maybe so, which may explain it. His last post was on UIC leaving the league.
Of course, some of it is just that message boards generally are in decline.
No real purpose to this post. Just observing.

Although OU hasn't been in the Horizon that long, a lot has changed since we have been here. We have had some significant program and individuals leave during that time. Also, we have had some significant additions. Hopefully as a league we can improve overall.

Now I think most observers would rank the Summit higher. Still probably a good move for OU, just to reduce travel and set up the rivalry with the Washington Generals Detroit Titans. Northern Kentucky has been a good addition. Seeing long-time doormat YSU improve is heartening. Maybe there is hope yet.

www.warrennolan.com/basketball/2023/net-conference We are 21st in NET as a conference and if it wasn't for GB and IUPUI we'd probably be somewhere acceptable. I think with all the different social media platforms its hard to get Horizon League fans together. A lot of Norse fans tend to use Facebook. UD and WSU are old school and still use message boards. Oakland fans tend to use twitter. Probably fan bases are shrinking a bit for mid to low tier teams due to a million other competing was to being entertained. Would like to see more meaningful games being played and local rivalries evolve to help Horizon League teams grow again.

Conference rankings change over time too. The Summit had a few really good years, and seems to be coming back down now. The timing of the portal has had a lot to do with the decline of the conference. I am a fan of the portal, and think it can be great. It seems easier for those who are good to attract others and become even better. Conversely, for those who are down, it becomes more difficult to attract talent. Missing out on the OVC to MVC schools sucked too. Our timing has not been good. Hopefully things improve sooner than later.

I do miss when more of the message boards were active.
The Panthers board has remained active but things were so much fun when the Horizon League had its streak of winning at least one game in the NCAA Tournament every year from 2005-2011.
Since then Wright State winning a play in game is the only win to speak of.

Just thought I'd post. Freewind has made some efforts, but it looks like this site is just about dead. Too bad--there are some conferences that have lively conference sites.

I think the lack of success as a conference had contributed to the decline of the sites participation. Hopefully both improve.
