The Raiders athletics department has dropped 3 sports, softball and men's & women's tennis. This action drops the school below the requirement for Division One status and a waiver is now required. Link per wsuraiders.com: Wright State Falls Below DI RequirementAffected programs are softball, men's tennis and women's tennis. The move affects 39 student-athletes and six coaches. Wright State will now have 11 sports (six women's, five men's). In addition to the elimination of sports, several other measures will be taken to reduce athletics spending.NCAA Division I member institutions are required to sponsor at least seven sports for men and seven for women (or six for men and eight for women) with two team sports for each gender. Wright State has been in contact with the NCAA and will pursue a waiver to remain in compliance.

Uh oh. Hopefully things will turn around for them and they can add some new sports that are more cost effective. I thought they were starting to recover and build their finances back up. Guess that's not actually the case.

Guess that's not actually the case. Unfortunately WSU currently has no sports that are cost effective and zero prospects of starting or restarting any that would be cost effective.
A more reasonable target, assuming no waiver is obtained from the NCAA, would be to start or restart a few of the least cost ineffective sports. Any suggestions?

Inexpensive NCAA sports would include bowling, riflery and fencing. Men's volleyball could also be added. None of these sports is sponsored by the HL but they could get WSU back to the NCAA minimums.
