His whole staff is gone too...All I can say is why now? With so many years on his deal? So late in the offseason? If anyone transfers would they be able to replace them? I think we're in or getting close to the dead period now...

There's no way this is true right??? If it is it sounds like a terrible move by the university and would be a huge blow to the HL.

Yeah the mind is blown on this one. If money is an issue with the school, what is protocol for positions like this, is it better to fire and hope to win in court that you don't have to pay the rest of the salary or is it better to look for a buyout? Maybe with covid-19 not a lot of schools are looking to spend money on coaches so maybe why they fired him?
I'll be curious to see what else comes out of that university this week.

Some info from "Phear the Phoenix" Link per phearthephoenix.wordpress.com: Phear The Phoenix: "What We Know"One of the major questions surrounding the decision to fire Darner revolved around how the school could afford to buyout the remaining amount on the coach’s contract.
Thanks to a stipulation in his deal that included an automatic one year extension for finishing in the top four of the Horizon League regular season Darner was signed for the next six years, through the 2025/2026 season. With a base salary of $230,000 that would mean the school could potentially owe him nearly $1.4 million, an impossible amount for a school with the smallest athletic budget in the conference.

Thanks for that post. It's important to hear that the dropping out of D1 rumors aren't true and that they appear to have a candidate in mind who appears to have a strong resume. D3 is an entirely different beast than D1 but maybe he's up to the challenge. I hope whatever happens works out for Green Bay. I enjoyed our many battles with the Phoenix in the past. Hopefully we'll see some HL teams on the schedule in future years now that there have been a couple years of separation. I think it would be good for everyone involved if Valpo and HL teams played each other in the non-conference.

Yep. Heard that as well. Glad we're going on the road first and I'm also glad that UIC seems to be improving. Could end up being a very good series.
