Reportedly, UIC has hired former Illinois State Michigan and most recently Texas assistant Luke Yaklich. This is a really good hire. He was the architect of the defensive scheme for the 2016-2017 Redbirds who tied for first in the MVC with the Shockers and were left as one of the first four out of the NCAA Tournament because they underscheduled. This could be a bright new era in Flames basketball and UIC fans should be very excited.

On paper, an excellent hire. Time will tell however as he has to convince the core (Michael Diggins, Braelin Bridges, Jacob Wiley, Brian Taylor, Deon Ejim) to stay and get some serviceable recruits to come in. The talent at UIC has rarely been an issue. It's always been the coaching...or lack thereof.
