The HL just added Purdue Fort Wayne for the '20-'21 season. The question is will the HL go into next season with 11 teams or add at least one more before July 1, 2020? No need for any discussion as we don't want to continue beating a dead horse. Just want to get a feel from the HL Fans Forum faithful.

Cleveland State AD Garrett's punitive refusal denying Rasheem Dunn's transfer waiver request to play for St. John's in the 2019-20 Season that the NCAA mindlessly upheld is a punitive Hobson's choice to this solid student athlete that may well give other prospective recruits of CSU and the Horizon League pause when considering a wise and true college choice.

You should have added option 3: drop down to 10. There is still a chance that one of our top teams leave if they get an offer from a better conference. I didn't add it because it never crossed my mind for the '20-'21 season. Like many of us have said, in order for any of the HL teams to be considered for another conference, there has to be some consistency in winning, NCAA tourney invites and winning some games in The Dance. None have done that yet. It appears that Wright State would be the closest now, as NKU has had a coaching change and there will more than likely be a period of adjustment for their program. I didn't think anything on the reduction front would be eminent.

My speculation is the Horizon League is targeting Robert Morris and the timeline will depend on if/when RMU accepts. RMU might be hesitant upgrading if their administration refuses to give up the East Coast.
So I believe the HL would like 12 by 7/1/2020 but only if it’s Robert Morris.

I am not passing judgement on Robert Morris but their basektball team is 0-3 against the Horizon League this year. That is pretty hard to do given how little the league has been able to win in the Non Conference.

That should be plainly obvious after our last 2 additions of IUPUI and IPFW. I totally agree with you. I'm mostly amused by the thought that there aren't many teams worse than the bottom of the Horizon League and somehow the league might actually find a team that could make things worse! It almost seems impossible or certainly like they would have to go out of their way to do it.

I think it's pretty safe to say at this point that it'll be 11 for next season. Will the HL be doing 20 conference games like everyone else seems to be? Don't you also have a challenge with the SL starting this year as well? What else? I can't remember... I know a lot of challenges started up but I can't remember if the HL is in one conference challenge or two. I think the SL has two (HL and WAC) and I know the A10 and Mountain West have one with each other.

Do you have the pairings by any chance? I'd love to see what the best matchups are.

11/17- UIC vs North Dakota State; 12/12- Milwaukee @ North Dakota (the second game of the challenge). These are the only two that I have match ups for. I'll post if I get more info.

Saw that NDSU will travel to Youngstown State this year as part of the challenge. So that's both games for the Bison. I wonder what the SL is going to do with only 9 teams to the HL's 11... Unless Augustana and St Thomas are joining (but that just gives non-D1 games that a school is locked into and that's not good for the HL schools)...

Maybe 2+ of their teams will only play 1 game vs Horizon league.

Well now Looks like I'm going to have to eat my words/ If you can get RMU to join it's a very strong add for the conference. The Wright State situation is quite worrisome though as is the situation in Green Bay (even though they say they'll be D1 at least for now). If those schools can hold on and you get RMU it adds a really solid program as well as new recruiting territory and expands the footprint. For as questionable an add as PFW may have been to many this looks like a good addition by LeCrone. It won't make the HL a multibid league in all likelihood but it will make the conference better.
