Just as a point: The Horizon's average conference tournament attendance last year was 14th of 32 conferences. The power conferences and the MVC give a different impression, but for the rest of the country, conference tournaments have sparse attendance. Totally agree with gbphoenix. The Tuesday night deal made some sense when games were played on campus. But if you want attendance at a neutral site, the Tuesday game has got to go. Do we get any money from ESPN for that? Or just a game on the main ESPN network? Anyway, as gbphoenix says, at least a Monday night game. Better would be a Sunday game. Get all 10 teams back in the tournament. 7-10 play first round Mon/Tues on campuses, quarters/semis/finals on Fri/Sat/Sun. Or Thurs/Fri/Sat -- Thursday games at 1:00/3:30/6:30/9:00. Lots of fans could make the late games, missing just 1 day work (and maybe cut out a couple hours early on Thursday) to catch the whole tournament, leisurely drive home on Sunday. Thx for the info and perspective on conference tournament attendance #s. That is good to hear. We are not in a bad place. I guess I was hoping that MCM would eventually grow into something like arch Madness. I assumed it would be 5+ years. But that won't be the case.

So, any ideas on the tournament's new name? "Meth City Madness" and "Middling Cornfield Madness" let us keep the acronym at least.

How about Circle City Madness? That's one of the nicknames of Indianapolis.

Of the options so far I like Motorspeedway Madness and Circle City Madness.
However, I have a novel idea. It should just be called The Horizon League Championship presented by __________. Arch Madness is one of a kind. It plays on the goodwill of the moniker for the Big Dance and plays on the most famous part of the host city. I don't think they should copy something that doesn't seem likely to work for Indianapolis. Go secure a title sponsor and just roll with that and let the brand be the title sponsor and horizon league. That isn't as fun but probably the best business decision.

The Horizon League Championship presented by "Indianapolis is terrible. Seriously, it's the worst major city in the U.S., why are we here?", Inc.

The Horizon League Championship presented by "Indianapolis is terrible. Seriously, it's the worst major city in the U.S., why are we here?", Inc. Not presented by Indy, but by an actual sponsor. Like Toshiba. The Horizon League Championship presented by Toshiba.

They have every right to be upset, just as everyone else outside of Indy does too. I guess it will be interesting to see where the next round of the tournament will be held. It may catch on in Indy since it is a small facility with better TV optics. Time will tell. Honestly, I don't like giving it to the new kid on the block.

Beyond compare - LeCrone said that it wasn't a rule about bids not including a home arena. Just read a release from the Horizon League dated 10/12/18. The paragraph starting with "Prospective bid..." includes "which may not be a primary home for a Horizon League member institution".
Helps explain why NKU got fussy earlier in this thread.
Sorry I never had a chance to attend the tournament in Detroit ( checked out possible hotels each year but, just didn't work out ).

Anyway, in my thinking the place you play the games is the primary home. If NKU had used their arena in the bid instead of one in downtown Cincinnati, guess LeCrone would have used some excuse of why that bid didn't meet the guidelines.
Not against a school hosting but, liked it when the top seed earned it even if it meant HL administrators couldn't sleep in their own beds.

I like the idea of a neutral site tournament. I think this year was a pretty good format. I hate to see it leave Detroit, but it's gone.
