If the Missouri Valley poaches a team or two from the Horizon because of Wichita State's defection to the American Athletic Conference, what does the Horizon League do?

This is the tougher question. If the Valley comes in and snags a team or two, then the HL might have to think about moving slightly eastward. That would mean inviting a Robert Morris, a Fort Wayne or maybe even a Duquesne.

Last time the mvc took the worst performing team in the last 10 years, Loyola. Who do they take this time? Like it or not, Ft. Wayne is the leading candidate out of the realistic options. Problem is who knows what Ft. Waynes's financial situation is.

Problem is who knows what Ft. Waynes's financial situation is. Im not sure they are the leading candidate. Where did that come from? I think we will expand beyond our current geographic footprint- be it south, east or west. Not many options north, but I guess it's possible.

I've seen other names mentioned but I don't think they are realistic additions.

I saw the names of Nebraska-Omaha and Denver in an article to make the league city-centric. I'm not completely against them as teams but that really creates a whole heck of a lot more travel it would seem. For that reason alone I'd be against it.
I wish we were in a position to be proactive about this possibility but right now, as a league and where we stand, we are not. I'd guess the only team that really makes much sense to me would be Fort Wayne. Not saying that I love the idea but just saying that it is kind of the 'best of the worst' scenario.
As long as UIC, Oakland, and NKU improve or play up to par next year, that should help the league much more than any team that is added.

I don't think Denver or Omaha get enough votes from the HL presidents.

I don't think Denver or Omaha get enough votes from the HL presidents. With you on that, but those two programs are from urban cities, the type of cities the HL is made of. And some have mentioned that Denver is a 3-hour flight, same as a 3-hour bus ride. I wouldn't be too put off with Omaha, but do they have the money to invest and be successful in the HL seeing as they dropped football prior to moving to D1 and hockey is a big financial albatross for them. Considering what Jon LeCrone and the Presidents did with the last two invitees (Oakland & NKU), I'm pretty confident in their decision this time around.

So from what I have seen it sounds like the 4 most likely candidates would be.
Omaha Denver IPFW IUPUI
Maybe the Horizon League and the Missouri Valley can absorb the Summit league between the two of them. There are other schools that could be good geographic fits but seem like they wouldnt come to the Horizon League.

Kansas City wouldn't be bad. It's a hotbed of college hoops, although the bulk of them cheer for KU. The problem is even without Valpo, they would still be a western outlier. They'd make a better travel partner for Missouri State in the Valley.

It will be interesting. Today the mvc presidents meet. I hope action is taken soon and this conference realignment is not drawn out.
Say valpo goes to mvc. HL doesn't feel comfortable with IPFW as that administration debates going back to D2. Omaha decides to stick with the Dakotas as the summit league has never been stronger. That leaves the HL with iupui in the headquarter city of the HL.
Without valpo there are no Indiana teams in the league and the baseball membership drops to 6.

Agreed. My thought is will the HL invite one if the Valley poaches or will they go to 3.
