I just thought this would be an interesting aspect to monitor over the course of the season. As an NKU fan we are really working hard to boost our attendance to build our program. I know we have boosted our season ticket sales by quite a bit over the past 2 seasons and the student section really showed up for our game against Morehead State as they almost filled the entire student section at BB&T Arena. Hopefully you guys will get to see that in our conference games and it will make for an exciting game day atmosphere. I went through the box scores of all the teams in the league and tried to find calculate their average attendance. Some teams I could not find their exhibition games attendance and some I could. So this is not 100 percent accurate but a rough aproximation based on attendance figures available on the teams website and espn.com box scores.
1. Wright State- 3,335 2. Oakland- 3,126 3. NKU- 3,072 4. Youngstown State 2,724 5. UIC- 2,362 6. Green Bay- 2,077 7. Detroit- 1,779 8. Cleveland State- 1,409 9. Milwaukee- 1,321 10. IUPUI- 990
Now we have to take into account that it is early enough in the season that some teams have only played a handful of D1 games and that many of the home games have been against D2 and D3 opponents. I know NKU has only played 2 D1 opponents in their 5 home games. The attendance average between those two games jumps up 3,825 and their most recent game was over 4,000. So we will likely see some of these numbers increase. What amazes me is that 2 of the largest institutions in the League have the lowest attendance. I know I keep circling back to NKU but just something to point out is the upward trajectory of our attendance the past 3 seasons in the league.
In 2016 our average attendance was 2,297 a game In 2017 our average attendance was 2,824 a game In 2018 our current average attendance is 3,072 a game and increasing against better opponents.
A lot of positives for this NKU program this year. Even if we do not win the league it seems we are establishing ourselves as a solid program. The attendance is going up, corporate partnerships have drastically increased, local media attention has jumped (we now have some beat reporters from the local newspapers and have some of our games broadcast on local over the air TV), our merchandise sales have also dramatically increased and is available from retailers across the Greater Cincinnati area. Here is to hoping that when Brannen gets a promotion at some point we can find a coach who can keep things going.

Well, I wouldn't include exhibition. Can't remember if I went to WSU's men's exhibition but, I know it was free. The women's exhibition was free, also ( I know for sure there was nobody to check tickets.
WSU plays a non-D1 tomorrow, I expect a low turnout ( but, you never know ).

Also, this is a little more interesting than the threads about ratings. I expect those to be awful for the teams and league.

YSU had over 4000 people at a Non D1 home game. Their other games are more representative of past experience. I would expect their average to drop as the season moves along. I have no clue how they got that many people at a game.

I certainly respect the growth of NKU. A great building, in a great market with an exciting winning team is a good formula!
As a GB fan I have experience with some of the NKU leadership so I am not sure those guys will be able to grow it if the coach moves on.

Turns out YSU's hype, CSU's hype and even UIC's hype has been with smoke and mirrors. They're all Institutional Charlatans!

NKU's home game against Eastern Kentucky last night drew around 3600 which bumps our season average up to around 3,160. Good sized crowd for a sunday night during finals week.

The new coaching hire was exciting but he inherited a last place roster which lost its best player to Arizona State. I'm hoping IUPUI can overtake CSU as the worst attended school in the league.

FWIW, YSU flagrantly lies when providing attendance figures for FB, WBB, and MBB. Some claim that even they are called "attendance numbers", the numbers provided aren't the number of attendees but rather tickets sold, much of which are sold to local businesses and not actual fans. Even this seems implausible but TBH I've not seen their books.
I went to a MBB game about three years ago and was actually able to count the number of people physically there, and it was under 100. We had an entire section to ourselves.
Having an OOC schedule w/o any D1 wins, plus the controversy with FB recruiting convicted gang rapists, I suspect attendance isn't any better now.

We had solid attendance numbers over the break despite almost no students showing up. Against IUPUI we drew 4203 and against UIC we drew 3688 which bumped our season average to 3359. Now that school is back in session and we have some good matchups coming up you may see NKU crack 5000 in a few games.

Even this seems implausible but TBH I've not seen their books. All D1 schools count tickets sold as their official attendance number. Or better put, all D1 schools CAN count tickets sold as their official number. They can also choose to do an actual count, or an estimate. So if you sell lots of advance/season tickets, you usually use count. If you give away lots of tickets (UIC) you usually use turnstyle or an estimate. cosida.com/media/documents/2010/7/201011_statspolicies_list_100625.pdf. I've never seen anything in the rules requiring a team to use one method or another all year, so it appears that a school can actually use the one that gives it the best numbers at each individual game. Anyway, point is, if the in-house looks less than the official count, that's not necessarily a sign that anybody is "lying" when reporting the numbers.

Should be a packed house tonight at BB&T. It sounds like they have sold out the lower bowl and have started selling tickets online for the upper deck which i have actually never see them do. The upper deck is generally kept closed unless there is some walkins that overflow. Also from talking to some different student orgs it sounds like they think they will be able to get 1,000 to 1,500 students to the game which should give a great atmosphere. You guys should watch the game and see how great the atmosphere is!

So the official attendance from last night was 4,987 which was our highest of the season and also the highest since the 14-15 season when we hosted West Virginia. The attendance continues to trend up this season as we are now averaging 3,540 if you include the exhibition game at the beginning of the season and 3,643 if you dont. In the 3 games of Horizon League play we are averaging 4,292 fans a game. Now that school is in session we should be able to hit at least 4,000 the rest of the way. The student section was fantastic last night as they were able to almost entirely fill the bleachers. Excitement for Norse Basketball is on the rise! Tough loss to Wright State last night but definitely a very entertaining and fun game!

UC is averaging 7,477 for their 9 regular season home games ( doesn't include the exhibitions )
FWIW, NKU uses 3,643 as the average so far
