What are the fans of Detroit saying now about Coach McCallum? The dude is recruiting his $ off! He's getting top-notch or close to top tier players for the Titan program. I think he's doing a heckuva job. I know some of the Titan faithful complain about his Xs and Os ability (or lack thereof), but nevertheless I still think he's doing a nice job for the Titans.

Hey, Chuck. Opinions are mixed on Coach Ray. I believe most fans are more or less happy with him, but there are some fans hate the fact that he is the coach and would fire him tomorrow if they had the power. I have never understood the level of vitriol that this group has for Coach, but they are tireless in their arguments against him. I'm definitely in the pro-Ray camp. Admittedly, I go back to being a fan of his since he was a player at Ball State. :-) I wouldn't say he's a great coach, but he's very good. He might lack in Xs and Os, but you can say that about the majority of coaches in the NCAA. He's a good recruiter (and seems to be getting even better), he's a great representative for the University, a tireless worker, and seems very focused on getting the Titans to the top and keeping us there. He took over the program when it was a mess, and has made us relevant again. He may not be a play calling genius and he's wasn't the up and coming "lightning in a bottle" candidate that some wanted when he was hired (and still want), but I have no interest in getting rid of him at this time. I'm willing to let him keep on building his program.

To piggyback on Sam, when he writes, "I believe most fans are more or less happy with him," I think he's making an understatement. My strong sense is that the Ray haters are really a very small group, just very vocal.

You're probably right, Commish. I probably let the volume of the anti Ray crowd convince me that there are more of them than they are.

Lacey James decommitted from Detroit yesterday, 48 hours before the start of the early signing period. Detroit still has two good recruits expected to sign, including the top point guard in Michigan, Josh McFolley, and another big man, Gerald Blackshear, but this hurts. James was the most highly rated of the three.
