Lake Erie College 53 at Wright State 86
The raiders cruised to victory against a non DI team of Lake Erie College. We got our answer (sort of) for this game that Alex Huibregtse would be the 5th starter for this veteran team. That being said, I can see a world where Nagy might change it up game to game. Welage had 21 minutes had 8 points and grabbed 5 boards off the bench could very well compete for this position. Tanner Time led the raiders with 19 points and helped keep the ball moving with 5 assists. Finke looked great from the 3 point arch making 4 of 5 attempts finishing with 18 points. Basile had a double double in 13 points and 13 boards. Raiders went 11 deep, but i don't expect that against DI opponents. CJ Wilbourn seemed to be out nursing an injury so we're in the dark how he fits in with the team.
IUPUI 47 at Butler 56
Low scoring game for our Horizon League tip off game. Just glancing at the stats it looks like IUPUI's defense is better than expected holding Butler to 34 pct FG shooting while their offense seems to be extremely lacking. Like the raiders, they also went 11 deep against a much tougher opponent. Looks like most everyone got pretty even playing time so IUPUI is definitely looking for players to step up. BJ Maxwell was the only player in double digits with 14 points in the game also played the most at 26 minutes.
Wheeling Jesuit 54 at Northern Kentucky 82
Someone please clarify this for me, i thought you were only allowed to field 15 players in a Division 1 match? Wheeling had 17 players play per ESPN's box score: www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/boxscore/_/gameId/401385108 Did they have the water boy out there? Overall didn't matter, NKU crushed them anyway led by Pivorius off the bench with 19. The bench did well with Robinson and Langdon also contributing in double digit scoring 13 and 11 respectively. The team overall shot well, 50% from the field.
Oakland 53 at West Virginia 60
I kept my eye on the score of this game though out the night as i watched the Raiders. Oakland jumped out early but their turnover game (25) doomed them. Not the way I expected them to go, I would not expect Jalen Moore to have 13 turnovers again. If he does, it's going to be a long season for Oakland fans. Oakland also shot just 13 pct from behind the arc, but good defense on their part limited WVU to only 19 pct from three land as well. Cain had another good night with 15 points
UIC 54 at Dayton 64
This game seemed closer than the final score. UIC led at multiple points during this game. A 6 minute long scoring drought doomed UIC towards the end of the game. Depth might be a problem for UIC as they went 8 deep was all. Zion Griffin led the flames with 17 points with 6/11 from the field and 5 of 8 from behind the arc. Looks like there was a lopsided amount of calls as UIC only shot 2 free throws and Dayton had 23, going to guess that was because of the end of the game.
Earlham 54 at Purdue Fort Wayne 103
Pipkens led the charge with 19 in a game that was never really close. PFW had 6 players in double digit scoring and out rebounded Earlham 36 to 21. PFW shot a rediculous 63.8 pct from the field and 52 pct from beyond the arc.
Indiana State 81 at Green Bay 77
Watching the score throughout the game i thought Green Bay was going to do it. Both teams shot the ball pretty similar Indiana State had the edge on the boards out rebounding Green Bay 37-28. The Phoenix made up for the lack of boards by forcing 16 turnovers and only losing 9 on their end. Angsong led Green Bay with 19 but looks like Ivory & McGee came off the bench to have great games scoring 16 and 14 respectively. Looks like there's good and bad to take away for the Phoenix fans in this one, they look to have a competitive team this year but sadly still couldn't bring home the W.
Milwaukee 75 at North Dakota 60
Team looks a lot better when Gholston is on his game. PBJ struggled in the first half and the team was able to keep it together. I think he only had like 7 in the first half but finished with 21 and had 10 rebounds. I'll be interested to see how this team progresses through Non-Con.
Cleveland State 59 at BYU 69
I had higher hopes for this Veteran Vikings team in this game. CSU kept it close until the very end but couldn't ever grab the lead the whole 2nd half. Patton led the team with 14 points. Rebounding was a team effort and it lacked as they got out rebounded 41 to 31. Shot poorly from the floor 35 pct to BYU's 45 pct. Had only 6 turnovers to BYU's 14 but BYU swatted CSU for 7 to 2.
